Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sexual Health Migrates Hosting to Inform Health

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (HIOWH) Sexual Health and HIV Service (SHHS) have successfully migrated hosting of its Inform Health systems to the Inform Health cloud.

The project was initiated earlier this year following changes to the incumbent hosting provider’s business model. The project required significant service resource, working alongside Inform colleagues, but was completed ahead of schedule, despite the project challenges of ensuring three lab integrations were maintained, the migration was completed successfully and with minimal disruption to patient services.

Now the Inform Health Electronic Patient Record and Personal Health Record systems are fully hosted in the Inform Health cloud, Inform Health support teams can directly monitor and manage the hosted environment in real-time, without needing to go through third party providers. This will drive fast and accurate identification and resolution of issues that will support HIOW sexual health to continue to optimise service delivery and patient experience.

Sarah Malcolm, Operations Director, HIOW Sexual Health and HIV Service, comments:

Given the potential impact on continuity of patient care, effective project management was essential, from both organisations. The Sexual Health project manager worked constructively with Inform Health and other stakeholders to address emerging risks and issues, and to maintain momentum, and oversight, throughout the process.

Whilst the project experienced some unforeseen delays, all parties remained committed to its successful delivery, often going above and beyond - including HIOW staff working outside of standard hours - to ensure minimal disruption to patient services.

Following the completion of the work, some improvements to the speed of Inform operating have been seen, and further actions have been agreed to undertake steps to continue this improvement process to ensure that the EPR is as effective and timely as possible, and we hope these are managed with the same rigour as the initial stages.

Strong SHHS project management, combined with dedication and expertise from the Inform Health team, were instrumental to the success of this project, as Sue Bunn, Commercial Director at Inform Health, explains:

This migration was a true team effort. From our project and technical representatives, alongside the various third parties involved including the clinical and operational staff at HIOW healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, ICS Computing Ltd, and the pathology services of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.

Everyone played a vital role in delivering this multi-faceted project and overseeing a smooth and successful transition. Thanks to strong collaboration, we were able to overcome the complexities at play and go live ahead of schedule — whilst keeping disruption to an absolute minimum

Finally, our new EPR makes it easier to see any safeguarding issues – including what previous conversations have taken place – so our clinicians are supported to identify and support vulnerable patients
