Inform Health Debuts Self-Managed Chlamydia Treatment at the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV Annual Conference
Inform Health is today announcing the launch of new functionality that will empower patients to order Chlamydia treatment by post via their Inform Personal Health Record (PHR).
As the most commonly diagnosed STI in 2024, Chlamydia accounts for over 46% of all new STI diagnoses in England. Unveiling this latest enhancement at the 2025 BASHH Annual Conference in Edinburgh, the Self-Managed Chlamydia Treatment functionality marks a crucial step forward in patient self-management – offering appropriate patients increased convenience and autonomy over their sexual health, while tackling onward transmission. The new functionality will also support services to free-up clinic time for patients who present with more complex needs.
Already offering patients the ability to order condoms and STI testing kits by post (with full lab integration facilitating fast and accurate results notification direct to patients), the PHR is now capable of providing a service-specific algorithm to assess the eligibility for self-managed treatment of genital Chlamydia. The PHR will then notify the service, via seamless integration with Inform’s clinic-based electronic patient record (EPR), so that orders can be posted discretely to patients to self-administer treatment at home.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Sexual Health recently became the first service in England to go live with Inform’s Self-Managed Chlamydia Treatment functionality. Commenting on the significance of the move, Modern Matron, Kirsty Roseaman said: “We worked closely with Inform to develop this new functionality to provide patients with another option for obtaining treatment for non-complex Chlamydia. It frees up our clinical teams to provide care for patients with more complex needs and allows patients to access treatment without visiting the clinic, or even speaking to a clinician. We’re very happy with it, and look forward to developing more digital care pathways in future.”
The Inform Health team will be running demonstrations of their sexual health and HIV systems, including new enhancements to the PHR, which not only includes the Self-Managed Chlamydia Treatment functionality but also the newly developed Repeat PrEP functionality, during this week’s BASHH Annual Conference (stand 15). Sue Bunn, Commercial Director at Inform Health, comments: “With increasing demand on sexual health services, extending self-management for appropriate patients can benefit all stakeholders – including patients, service staff and commissioners. We’re looking forward to meeting with sexual health services here at BASHH and showcasing the PHR’s exciting new Self-Managed Chlamydia Treatment functionality.”
